    Compliance is checked before a carer can accept a shift — not chased afterwards. Providers get the evidence pack they need for inspection; carers upload documents once.

    DBS checks

    Every carer holds a current DBS check at the level their role calls for, tracked on the update service where available and re-verified at expiry.

    Right to work

    Identity and right-to-work documents are verified before a carer is activated, with a dated evidence record for your file.

    Inspection-ready records

    Download a per-shift pack — who worked, their documents, hours approved — aligned to what CQC, the Care Inspectorate and CIW ask for.

    Safeguarding

    Clear escalation routes, incident reporting in-app and immediate removal from the marketplace where concerns are raised.

    How billing works

    Carers submit hours from the app; your manager approves them against the booked shift. Shiftium raises a single consolidated invoice, weekly or monthly, with a per-shift breakdown by home and cost centre. Carers are paid within 3 working days of your approval — Shiftium handles the payment rails, so there is no cash handling on site.

    Questions, answered.

    There is no subscription and no listing charge — joining and using Shiftium costs you nothing up front. Shiftium's 10% platform fee comes out of the value of each shift, so on a shift worth £120 you are paid £108. Both figures are shown on the shift before you accept it, and there are no other deductions.
    A DBS check at the level the role calls for, on the update service where applicable, right-to-work documentation, identity verification, references and evidence of mandatory training. Documents are re-checked at expiry and a carer cannot accept a shift while anything is out of date.
    Carers on the marketplace are independent and responsible for their own tax and National Insurance. Shiftium verifies compliance, handles booking and payment, and provides the audit trail — providers keep control of on-site direction and supervision.
    Most last-minute shifts posted in an area with active carers are accepted within a few hours. Shifts posted a week ahead are typically covered the same day they go live.
    The shift automatically re-opens to other qualified carers nearby and your account team is alerted. Repeated no-shows remove a carer from the marketplace, and you are never charged for hours that were not worked.
    Yes. You can post gaps manually or import them, and export approved hours as CSV for your payroll and finance systems. Direct integrations with the main UK rostering tools are on the roadmap — tell us which one you use and we will keep you posted.
